Clear Fuel Solutions provides mobile fuel polishing, tank cleaning, and fuel sampling in Long Beach — at Port of Long Beach terminals, on barges and vessels, at the city's marinas, and at industrial and standby generator sites. We are based in Carson, about fifteen minutes away, and carry TWIC credentials for port access. Licensed California contractor, CSLB License 1143416.

Project: Bulk diesel tank on a barge, Berth 54, Pier D

Client: Aeras Technologies. Completed August 2026.

Aeras runs a diesel-fueled operation off a barge at Berth 54 in the Port of Long Beach: a Western Global bulk diesel storage tank feeding a Cummins generator with a 400-gallon base tank. The system had been shutting down. That symptom almost always means water and settled contamination at the bottom of the tank are getting pulled into the fuel line.

What we found

A significant amount of microbial growth and sludge in the bulk tank. The filter media on removal made the case better than any report could.

What we did

  • Polished the bulk tank through our closed-loop system, multiple passes, filtered down to 1 micron

  • Shock-dosed the fuel with additive to kill remaining growth and stabilize it

  • Sampled the generator base tank — it did not need service, so we did not charge for it

  • Documented the filter media and before-and-after samples, and laid out a scheduled maintenance option so the growth does not come back

Proposal to completed service took nine days, including vendor setup. Invoice and photo documentation went out the same day as the work.

Why port and waterfront fuel systems foul faster

Waterfront tanks live in humid, salt air with wide day-night temperature swings. Condensation is constant, and any tank that is not kept full and turned over regularly grows microbes at the fuel-water interface. Barges and dockside equipment also tend to run on the same fuel for long stretches. By the time the generator shuts down, the tank bottom is usually already sludge. Polishing in place restores the fuel without hauling it off and without taking the equipment out of service.
